1. Brief Introduction
The predecessor of the Research Institute of Functional Materials, CISRI was Precision Alloy Research Dept., which was founded in 1958. As the development of scientific research and the growth of the research team, the institute was renamed several times till the name today ( Precision Alloy Research Dept.in 1979; New Material Research Institute in Oct., 1996; Research Institute of Functional Materials in Jan.,1999.). For the past several decades, with the concern and support of the Chinese government and CISRI as well as the ceaseless endeavour of the researchers of the institute, great contributions have been made for the development in the field of functional material science and for meeting the demand in national economy and national defence industry. The research projects, award certificates and patent certificates shown herewith witness the achievements obtained since the founding of the institute.
At present, the Research Institute of Functional Materials of CISRI is one one of the bases for research and development of the functional materials in China. The major fields that the institute covers are soft magnetic materials,rapid quenching technology and rapidly solidified materials, permanent magnetic materials, special alloys, magnetic shielding materials and techniques, hydrogen storage alloys, magnetostrictive magnetic materials, thin film materials, design of alloy electronic structures, magnetic liquid, LDJ equipment for magnetic measurement. It has a qualified research team undertaking research,development and production of functional materials. 80% of staff members are technical personnel including one member of China Academy of Sciences, 5 experts who have received the state special subsidy, three national level outstanding young and middle-aged experts and 13 postgraduate advisers 8 of whom are doctor advisers. It is authorized to confer doctor degree for one first-grade discipline and three second-grade disciplines as well as master degree for four second-grade disciplines. A post-doctorate station for the national inductrial research institute is established here.
A great number of crucial new materials have been developed and produced in the institute for China national defence construction in the fields of aerospace, armament, nuclear industry, warship and for civel economic contructions in metallurgical energy resources, transportation, machinery, electronics, oil exploration, medicine and health care etc.. Till now, the institute has won numerous national awards and has made great contributions to the development of functional materials in China.
